A drinking tube is attractive when you want water without stopping to find a bottle. CamelBak’s blue Crux 2L adds that convenience to a compatible backpack, but the purchase makes sense only if the pack has a suitable compartment and you are willing to clean a reservoir and tube afterward.
Start inside the backpack
Check the reservoir compartment, hanging arrangement and tube-routing opening before ordering. A two-liter capacity does not tell you whether a particular sleeve has the right width or shape. Look at the filled profile in the reference photographs and leave room for the rest of your equipment. Water adds weight as well as volume.

The selected item is the standard blue 2L Crux reservoir, not the lumbar version, a larger capacity or a LifeStraw-equipped kit. It stores drinking water; it does not make an unsafe source drinkable. Choose an appropriate water supply or separate treatment system rather than assuming the product name implies filtration.

Filling and tube control are the useful details
The wide screw-cap opening and handle are intended to make filling easier, while the Quick Link connection lets the tube separate from the reservoir. The bite valve has an on/off lever. Familiarize yourself with those parts before putting a full reservoir beside clothing or electronics, and check that the cap and connections are correctly seated.

Avoid trapping the drinking tube in a sharp bend or under other gear. The manufacturer’s layout can explain the system, but it cannot guarantee a leak-free result if the reservoir is incorrectly closed or damaged. Inspect the actual item and follow CamelBak’s instructions.
Allow room to finish the job
A reservoir’s less photogenic task is drying. Plan how you will wash and thoroughly dry both the bag and the tube after use, particularly before long storage. A tidy filled product photograph is not evidence that maintenance takes no effort.
Consider the Crux if your pack fits it and drinking on the move solves a real inconvenience. Keep a bottle instead if you prefer simpler cleaning or switch frequently between bags without hydration sleeves. We have not tested flow rate, leak resistance or long-term durability.
