Fred Grim Steeper: A Dark Little Joke for Your Tea Break

Some desk accessories organise your day; this one makes the tea break look faintly ominous. Genuine Fred's Grim Steeper hangs a tiny reaper over the rim of a mug, with loose leaves inside its silicone body. It is a good visual gift idea for somebody who enjoys dark humour, provided they also enjoy loose-leaf tea.

THE SHORT VERSION

Before you browse

  1. Loose leaves go into removable base; scythe rests on mug rim
  2. Silicone infuser with dishwasher-safe care
  3. Allow leaf expansion and check rim compatibility; temperature-limit discrepancy on maker page means no numerical heat rating asserted

Some desk accessories organise your day; this one makes the tea break look faintly ominous. Genuine Fred’s Grim Steeper hangs a tiny reaper over the rim of a mug, with loose leaves inside its silicone body. It is a good visual gift idea for somebody who enjoys dark humour, provided they also enjoy loose-leaf tea.

The joke still needs to brew

Remove the base, add leaves and close it again before suspending the scythe on your mug rim. Leave room for the leaves to expand rather than packing the little chamber tightly. The gallery shows the infuser in a clear mug, which makes the submerged body and rim support easier to understand.

A novelty-shaped infuser is not automatically the best tool for every tea. Very fine particles may be inconvenient, and a roomy basket offers more space for large leaves. Start with the tea you actually drink, not the photograph that made you laugh. Check that the support can sit securely on the thickness and shape of your mug’s rim.

Know what you are paying for

The selected black Grim Steeper is about 3.75 inches tall. Its value includes the sculpted character and gift presentation, not a claimed improvement in flavour over simpler tea equipment. It will not replace a kettle or mug, and neither is included. The laptop scene is manufacturer styling, not a claim that we used it during work.

Fred lists dishwasher-safe cleaning. Empty the leaves, rinse the holes and interior, and clean according to the supplied instructions. The product page and an older gallery graphic state conflicting maximum temperatures, so we do not repeat either number or suggest using it for baking. Keep use to the intended tea-steeping routine and the instructions on your product.

A gift that says you know their sense of humour

Choose Grim Steeper for a tea drinker who would genuinely enjoy the character beside a book or keyboard. A conventional basket is the more sensible pick for somebody who puts large-leaf brewing first. Here, the small daily smile is part of the purchase—not evidence of a better cup.
