The small KUGGIS is worth considering when loose accessories need a defined place on a shelf and you prefer a lid to open storage. But the name alone is not enough to identify what you are buying. There are different sizes and configurations, and a box that fits a shelf can still be inconvenient to open there.

Identify the exact box-and-lid combination
This guide concerns the white US combination 095.611.57, listed at 7 × 10.25 × 3.25 inches in width, depth and height. IKEA identifies one box and one lid in that combination. Check these details on the official product page.
Do not infer that a lid is included because a photograph shows one. Read the selected listing and basket description, especially after changing size or color. A product family name can remain the same while the item being ordered changes.
Keep the complete combination number in your notes. It gives you a more reliable comparison than matching a thumbnail across search results or country-specific stores.
Outside size answers only the first question
Measure the shelf’s usable width, depth and height. Account for a door, hinge or other obstruction that reduces the opening; a shelf’s overall size is not always the space available to move a box through.
Next, measure the largest object you want to store. The box’s external measurements do not guarantee its internal fit. Wall thickness, corners and the lid’s clearance can matter. If one rigid item determines the purchase, verify the internal measurements rather than rounding the outside numbers in your favor.
Do not calculate a storage capacity from those outside dimensions and treat it as a usable volume. Nor does a capacity figure tell you whether a particular shape can lie flat. A long object and several small ones create different fit questions even if their total volume is similar.
Decide how the lid will come off
Choose between two routines before buying: opening the container in place, or pulling it out and opening it elsewhere. Each needs space that a photograph of a closed box does not show.
If you open it on the shelf, check the room above and the space for your hand. If you pull it out, decide where it will rest and where the lid will go. Avoid a plan that depends on first clearing an already busy work surface every time you need something.
Stacking creates another access decision. Even when boxes are designed to stack, the contents of the lower one may be less convenient to retrieve. Put that inconvenience into the buying decision rather than treating every extra layer as free storage.
Match the contents to the reason for a lid
A covered container makes sense when you want small, related items gathered out of sight. It is less useful when repeatedly removing the lid interrupts the task the items support.
