NEMO Fillo Camping Pillow: A Small Comfort Upgrade with an Honest Packing Cost

A spare fleece can become a pillow, but it may also be the layer you want to wear at night. The regular NEMO Fillo gives that decision a different answer: a dedicated camp pillow with air support underneath a cushioning foam layer. It is aimed at making camp feel more settled, not at winning a contest for the lightest possible packing list.

THE SHORT VERSION

Before you browse

  1. Regular Fillo combines inflatable air support with a foam layer
  2. Micro-adjustable valve, integrated stuff sack and removable washable cover
  3. Not the lighter foam-free Fillo Elite or a home-size bed pillow

Adjust the air, keep the soft top

The regular Fillo combines an inflatable support chamber with foam and a removable cover. Its valve allows small firmness adjustments. That gives you a variable support shape without making the contact surface simply the bare shell of an inflatable pillow.

Start with less air rather than assuming maximum inflation is the most comfortable setting. Your sleep position, sleeping pad and sleeping-bag hood all affect how much pillow height feels useful. The design is promising for comfort, but no product photograph can establish how it will feel under your own head.

See the packed object as well as the pillow

The photograph beside a bottle is a packing-scale reference, not an included bottle. The integrated stuff sack keeps the storage pouch with the pillow. The removable cover can be washed according to the maker’s instructions; that does not mean putting the entire air chamber into a washing machine.

Compared with an all-air pillow or clothing in a sack, the foam layer has a space and weight cost. Decide whether a dedicated pillow belongs in your actual trip: it is easier to justify in a comfortable campsite routine than in a kit where every small item is being eliminated.

Buy the version you mean

Choose regular Fillo if a soft surface and adjustable support matter more than minimum bulk. Skip it if your existing improvised pillow already works, or if you need a home-size pillow. Fillo Elite is a different design; the names are not interchangeable.
