A sink is a hard place for a favorite glass to land. The OXO Large Silicone Sink Mat adds a flexible grid between dishes and the basin, creating a gentler resting surface without turning the whole sink into a solid rubber tray. It is a small upgrade for a kitchen where pans, bowls and delicate pieces share the washing-up space.

Start with the basin, not the photograph

The large version measures 16.25 by 12.75 inches, with a quarter-inch thickness. Measure the usable bottom of your sink, including rounded corners and the drain position. A mat that climbs the curved sides or blocks an awkwardly placed drain may be less useful than a smaller one.

OXO provides a pattern you can cut around the drain. Try the position before cutting: the opening is a permanent adjustment, not something you can undo when moving the mat to another basin.

The flexible silicone can be lifted to rinse the mat and clean the sink underneath.

A grid instead of a puddle

The raised open construction lets water pass through while supporting the items above it. That makes sense when you want a buffer for mugs or a resting place for a pan. OXO lists heat resistance to 425°F, but that is a material limit, not permission to place any red-hot cookware on it. Follow the cookware and sink manufacturer’s guidance too.

A cut drain opening gives water access to the drain without covering the entire base.

The mat is dishwasher safe according to OXO. Nevertheless, it does not clean the sink for you. Lift it regularly, remove trapped food, rinse underneath and allow both surfaces to dry. That small habit matters more than leaving a protective mat permanently out of sight.

Who will notice the difference?

Choose it if you often lower fragile dishes into a hard basin and want a removable, washable cushion. It is less compelling if your sink stays empty, you already use a well-fitting rack, or your drain layout makes trimming impractical.

The attraction is quieter and more comfortable dish handling, not a promise that nothing can break. Get the size right and keep it clean, and a simple silicone grid can make an everyday washing-up space feel less unforgiving.
