The ivory shell and brown cushions make the Sennheiser HD 599 look inviting before you hear anything. But its most important feature is less decorative: this is an open-back wired headphone. It belongs in a room where you can listen without needing to block the room out.
Decide where you will listen
An open grille lets sound pass in both directions. Outside noise can reach you, and someone nearby may hear part of your music. That trade-off makes the HD 599 a different proposition from a closed-back commuter headphone or a noise-cancelling wireless pair.

For a quiet evening at a desk, the design is worth considering. For a shared office, a train or recording beside a sensitive microphone, leakage and limited isolation can become reasons to choose something else. Buying a more expensive headphone does not remove that basic difference.

Comfort is personal, not a line in a specification
The gallery shows large oval cups, velour-covered replaceable pads and a padded headband. Those are useful features to inspect, particularly if you dislike small pads pressing directly on your ears. They do not guarantee a pressure-free fit for every head or glasses frame.

The stated weight is approximately 250 g. More important than that single number is whether the pads surround your ears and the headband sits comfortably for your intended session. Keep the retailer’s return conditions in mind when fit cannot be checked in person.

Sort the cable before you buy
The HD 599 is analog and wired, with a detachable cable. Confirm your source has the appropriate headphone output or a suitable adapter. Manufacturer and retailer package descriptions do not currently agree on all supplied cable lengths, so verify the exact box contents rather than buying around an assumed bundle.

Choose this Ivory HD 599 for a dedicated listening space and its understated appearance. Do not confuse it with Black HD 599 SE or expect Bluetooth, ANC or a built-in calling microphone. This guide is based on product information, not our own listening test.
