The commute question
A train, bus or café is not one kind of noise. A steady engine hum is the easy target for active noise cancellation; nearby speech and abrupt sounds are harder to erase. The WH-CH720N is worth considering if your problem is a tiring background drone, not if you expect silence in every crowded room. Sony also lists an ambient mode for the moments when you need to hear a platform announcement or a colleague.

Lightness is a real buying criterion
The most useful feature may be the less glamorous one: a comparatively light over-ear design. If pressure at the crown or around your ears ends listening early, a headphone that you actually keep on matters more than an elaborate feature list. Look at the cup shape in the photos, then consider your glasses and how long you usually wear headphones. We have not tested this pair on different heads, so comfort remains personal.

Battery, bag and the alternative
Sony rates battery life at up to 35 hours with noise cancelling; treat that as a manufacturer figure, not a promise for your volume and settings. These cups still need bag space. If your priority is a tiny pocketable setup, earbuds may be the better tool; if calls and active noise control dominate your day, compare higher-tier models too. The WH-CH720N makes the most sense when you want a lighter full-size compromise rather than the strongest possible isolation.

Our bottom line
Light over-ear construction may be easier to wear over a long session than bulkier travel models. But aNC does not make sudden voices disappear; fit and earcup seal still matter. Check the exact variant and current terms at the retailer. This is desk research, not a hands-on test.
