The frustrating part of a work bag is often not carrying it—it is finding the charger, glasses or small item that slid past the laptop. The current Thule EnRoute 23L approaches that problem with separate device pockets, a soft-lined valuables pocket and practical smaller-item organisation. The benefit is easier sorting, not an excuse to pack every pocket.
Start with the device, then the rest of the day
The exact Black version here is model 3205501, also called TEBP5216. Its laptop compartment measures 14.2 × 9.9 × 0.7 inches. Compare your computer, protective case and protruding corners against those physical dimensions; a retailer’s screen-size headline is less useful than the actual fit.

At 23 litres, this is a day bag rather than an automatic replacement for weekend luggage. A work kit and one light extra layer are a more sensible starting list. The gallery’s opened interior is worth studying before buying: padded device spaces and general cargo space serve different jobs.

Small details that earn their place
Mesh side pockets keep a suitable bottle outside the main compartment. A luggage pass-through changes how you carry the bag through a station, while a sternum strap helps position the shoulder straps. These are specific conveniences, not proof that an overloaded pack becomes comfortable.
The zippered TPU pocket is water-resistant and opaque, useful for separating selected small belongings. That is not a waterproof rating for the complete backpack. Likewise, tucking zipper pulls beneath a webbing loop adds a deterrent, not a lock.
The right reason to choose it
Buy the EnRoute if your daily kit benefits from defined places and you prefer a structured work backpack. Skip it if you mainly want the lightest empty bag or an unrestricted sack for bulky gear. Confirm the current 23L model: earlier EnRoute generations and the 21L version are not interchangeable. Research-based guidance; no personal field test is claimed.
