A large round piece of ice can make a simple drink feel deliberately served. Tovolo’s classic two-pack Sphere Ice Molds offers that small ritual without an ice machine. The useful question is not whether the ice looks impressive; it is whether your glass, freezer and drinking habits suit it.
Start with the glass
The selected 80-9697 set makes large spheres rather than novelty shapes or colossal cubes. Check the finished sphere size against the opening and inside width of your favourite glass. A beautifully frozen ball is no help if it cannot pass through the rim or leaves too little room for the drink.

A wide tumbler of iced tea, cold brew or an alcohol-free mixed drink can benefit from the same presentation. You do not need a spirits collection to enjoy making the serving feel a little more special.

Two molds means two at a time
Each mold has a lid and a filling guide, and the pair can stack. Leave sufficient freezer clearance, fill as instructed and keep the molds level. Plan ahead: this is a small-batch accessory, not a way to provide immediate ice for a room full of guests.

Transfer finished ice to suitable freezer storage if you want to build a supply. Do not overfill in the hope of making a bigger sphere; water expands as it freezes. Follow the release instructions rather than forcing a frozen mold apart.
Attractive does not mean crystal-clear
Large ice can suit a slowly enjoyed drink, but dilution also depends on temperature, time and how much ice you use. These molds are not a directional-freezing system and do not promise transparent, crack-free spheres.
Choose them for occasional, visually satisfying drinks when two molds are enough. Keep ordinary trays for quick cooling, narrow bottles and larger gatherings. The set’s appeal is a manageable little ritual, not a claim that every beverage will taste better. No hands-on comparison is implied.
