A gym bag is easy to choose until the journey includes stairs, a crowded train and a walk to the hotel. The Osprey Daylite Duffel 30 makes its strongest case there: one roomy compartment with three ways to carry it, rather than a pocket for every possible object.
Pack for the change of plans
The broad U-shaped opening exposes your clothes instead of making you fish through a narrow mouth. Put the item you will need first near the top; reserve the external zip pockets for smaller essentials. There is no reason to buy elaborate organisers before trying your usual weekend load in the main space.

Backpack carrying becomes useful when both hands are occupied. Shoulder and hand carrying suit shorter transfers. The photographs show those positions on the same 30-litre series in other colours; the selected purchase listing is black, model 10006139. Those scenes illustrate the design, not our own travel test.

What it will not replace
A convertible harness does not automatically make this a comfortable all-day hiking pack. If your trip includes hours of walking with a laptop and heavy supplies, compare a structured backpack with appropriate support. Likewise, water-repellent fabric should not be treated as a sealed dry bag.

At roughly 50 × 33 × 24 cm, the duffel needs to be checked against your specific carrier’s allowance. Its 30-litre capacity does not establish universal personal-item eligibility. A flexible bag can also bulge beyond its empty measurements when stuffed.

The useful buying test
Lay out your shoes, clothes and wash bag first. If they form a compact weekend load and your problem is switching carrying positions, this is a sensible shortlist. If you need separate shoe containment, laptop protection or extensive internal organisation, budget for those separately—or choose a bag built around them.
