The appeal is the second cucumber
A knife is perfectly adequate for a few slices. A mandoline becomes interesting when you want the next cucumber, onion or potato cut to the same thickness as the first. OXO’s Precision Handheld model offers four slice settings and a julienne setting, plus a food holder that stores beneath the tool.

That makes it a candidate for regular slaw or vegetable prep in a kitchen without space for a large slicing station. The clear runway lets you see the work. Set the tab to zero for storage as instructed, rather than leaving a working blade setting in a crowded drawer.

The holder belongs in the routine
Use the supplied food holder and follow the blade instructions. Even slicing is not worth trying to process the last tiny piece with fingers close to the edge. For irregular vegetables, mixed cuts or occasional prep, a knife remains more flexible and needs no separate setup. Buy this for repeated uniform slicing, not as a replacement for all knife work. Check that the listing is the Precision version: OXO has other handheld slicers with different settings, and a shared brand name does not establish the same features.

The decision before checkout
The Precision version is the important part of the name. A cheaper-looking OXO handheld slicer may be a different product with different settings. Allocate a safe working area and use the food holder throughout; a uniform slice is not worth using fingers to finish the smallest remnant.
