A blank page can make “be funny” feel like an assignment. A tray full of mismatched word magnets changes the question: what can you possibly say with these? Ransom Notes makes the awkward limitation visible, so the joke can come from the strange sentence rather than the most confident person in the room.
You build the answer, not pick a finished joke
Players respond to a prompt using their limited pool of words. Sliding magnets onto a metal tray gives an answer a physical form that everyone can read when it is revealed. The maker’s examples show the kind of broken grammar to expect; they are demonstrations, not evidence of how our own group reacted.

The base game includes six submission trays and 250 prompt cards. The maker and selected listing differ slightly on the word-magnet count, so do not choose it on the assumption that a particular extra ten words are guaranteed. Confirm the current box contents if that detail matters.

Know who is sitting at the table
The standard game is designed for 3–6 players, with team play possible for larger groups. It needs enough shared English for people to read the prompt and recognise why an odd combination is amusing. This is not a language-free guessing game or a substitute for a quiet two-person activity.

Some prompts lean adult. Do not assume the base box is automatically appropriate for children just because the pieces look like refrigerator magnets. Review the prompts for your group first. Family-content and NSFW packs are separate expansions, not included bonuses in this purchase.

The small pieces deserve a plan
Hundreds of words mean separating, distributing and collecting little magnets. A clear tabletop and a way to keep the contents together will matter more in everyday use than the box’s promise of endless combinations. Keep small pieces away from children who might put them in their mouths and follow the package guidance.
Choose it when your friends enjoy absurd phrasing and are happy to read their responses aloud. Skip it if sorting small pieces or editing the content would make the evening feel like work. We have researched the rules and contents, not personally played it; laughter depends on the group, not the purchase alone.
