Some runs are too simple to justify a hydration vest, but not simple enough to leave water behind. The Malibu HydraPak SkyFlask Speed 500ml sits between those choices. It is a collapsible bottle with a hand strap and thumb loop: a way to carry a modest amount of water without continually gripping a rigid bottle.
Decide whether you want a bottle in your hand
The adjustable strap and padded thumb loop can be used with either hand. That is the attraction if holding a conventional bottle feels inconvenient. It still occupies a hand, however, which matters if you also manage a phone, poles or a dog’s lead.

The manufacturer’s empty weight is 64.5g. Add the water before comparing it with a belt or vest. Half a litre contributes about half a kilogram, so the empty-bottle number alone does not describe how it will feel during a run. We have not tested fit or chafing on different hands.

The cap is the convenience feature
The 42mm SpeedFill opening flips up for refills rather than requiring the whole cap to be unscrewed each time. The gallery shows the cap, strap attachment and collapsed body. Those are useful buying details; the running scenes are brand reference photographs, not our test results.

Before leaving, check that the cap is fully closed and the strap fits securely. A soft body becomes smaller as you drink and is easier to put away empty. That does not make it an insulated bottle or an automatic replacement for a bigger water supply.

Plan water around the route
Five hundred millilitres may be convenient where reliable refills are available. Heat, duration, effort and individual needs vary, so no fixed distance or time coverage is promised. The removable strap is hand-washed separately; the maker allows the flask and cap in a dishwasher, following its instructions.

Choose it for a hand-held setup that genuinely suits your run. Skip it if you want both hands free or prefer a simple screw cap. This guide covers the redesigned, non-insulated Malibu 500ml model, not the smaller flask or insulated IT version.
